PCMCIA developed the ExpressCard standard to carry forward the benefits of 'plug-in' I/O cards to the next generation of personal computing devices. The ExpressCard Standard includes all electrical interface and mechanical specifications for ExpressCard technology. The ExpressCard Standard Release 2.0, released in February 2009, now includes support for both SuperSpeed USB 3.0 and PCI Express 2.0 each at 5 Gb/s.
